The Talking Express
The Talking Express is Geraldine Lynagh, Speech and Language Therapist
MRCSLT, HCPC, ASLTIP, PGDip, BSc (Hons)
I have over twenty years of experience working with children from pre school through to secondary school age.
I have been working independently for eight years and prior to this worked as a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist for Developmental Language Disorder and Speech Disorders within the NHS. I was also team lead for a busy clinic in Essex supporting therapists with wide ranging caseloads. As well as being based long term in a primary school with enhanced provision for Speech, Language and Communication Needs, I have visited and worked within a wide variety of educational settings.
I pride myself on keeping the child at the focus of therapy and addressing their needs in the most efficient way possible. This could be direct therapy with the child and their supportive adult/s, or working indirectly through parents and teaching staff to equip them with skills to meet the child’s needs. It could be bridging gaps between parents and school staff to help all involved understand the child’s individual needs in the context of their communication difficulty. It could also mean signposting adults to appropriate resources or professionals. Most of all, it means providing a child with the skills they need to communicate, whilst heightening their confidence to use these skills in every possible way.
Most recently, I have taken on a role that I am so absolutely passionate about - helping equip secondary age deaf students to fulfil their communication potential, to achieve well academically and functionally in all of the environments they are in and will find themselves in in the future.
