‘We are apprehensive at first, about using teletherapy, as had no experience of it, however Geraldine engaged our son in the session straight away, and it was really helpful for me to see the exercises and learn what he was doing. Being involved in his session made it easier for me to practise with him every day, and he very soon got the hang of what he needed to do. “Before picking Geraldine to work with my five year old son, I had a look around and asked for recommendations. Her name was mentioned to me by a friend who works in children’s ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat). Sure enough I interviewed three possible candidates over the phone, one of them was Geraldine. Geraldine came across really well, she sounded very professional and had a warmth to her voice. Soon after she came for her first session and consultation with my son. I was present at all times for that and every session thereafter. I found Geraldine to be very professional. Always in touch with me, always on time. She home visited each time and brought huge amounts of ideas and materials for my son to experiment and try to work on those difficult sounds which were tricky for him. Every single session had something new, something exciting for my son to look forward to. Geraldine focused the session around the sounds which she thought needed prioritising, and used fun games to entice my son in taking part. At no point did my son complain, as he really always enjoyed the sessions, which meant they were effective in terms of his participation. Although he was having fun playing all the phonetic sounds and games mixed together, behind all this there was a well studied plan, which Geraldine had drawn up beforehand in terms of tackling a given area of my son’s speech. What is more, they clicked straight away, which I think is of paramount importance. She understood my son and how to deal with his personality. Every child is different and I believe it’s very important to adapt to situations and to anything which might arise unexpectedly. Geraldine did that really well. She also left extra material for my son and I to work on between sessions and was generally always available if I needed extra support. I would have no hesitation in recommending her to anyone.”

They were able to quickly identify the areas that needed focusing on and set individual goals and targets which were realistically achievable one step at a time.
